Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that emphasizes the relationship between the structure and function of the human body. It follows a belief in the body’s ability to self-heal and self-regulate, allowing the osteopathic practitioner to facilitate health in their patients. It is a hands-on, manual treatment used to reduce pain, increase physical mobility, and improve the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids.
As the osteopath aims to restore the normal function and stability of the patient body to allow it to heal itself, they will use their hands to treat the patient, using a mixture of approaches and techniques. Every treatment will be based on the individual patient and the symptoms they present. An osteopathic treatment aims to positively affect the body’s nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic systems.
Osteopathy acts as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medicine.
A first osteopathic appointment will last between 45 minutes to an hour, and will allow the osteopathic practitioner adequate time to listen and ask questions about the patient’s specific situation, their general health, any other medical care they are receiving and then render an individualized treatment. Follow up treatments will usually last between 15-30 minutes depending on treatment required.

Prior to graduating with a Masters in Osteopathic Manual Sciences from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, Nancy earned a degree in Theatre Design (1994) and a diploma in Costume Studies (2002). For over 20 years she worked in theaters across Canada, before embarking on a new career path.

Nancy has experience training as a competitive swimmer, runner, and a triathlete. She has also trained in Crossfit and for several years had a daily Ashtanga yoga practice. Today, Nancy continues to swim and run, and enjoys the benefits of an active lifestyle.

As a lifelong athlete, Nancy was familiar with the effects of training on the body, and the limitations of traditional medical approaches in addressing physical pain and the complexities of injury and recovery. Nancy found her way to Osteopathy after traditional modalities failed to meet her needs. As a patient, Nancy found the practice of Osteopathy beneficial, bringing relief to her pain and allowing her to return to her training. As a practitioner, Nancy’s love for working with people, combined with her desire to help patients return to a functional quality of life, changed her path from the Arts to the Sciences.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy can help relieve the symptoms of injury, chronic pain well as a wide range of other health problems. Nancy uses her knowledge of anatomy to effectively treat her patients as individuals in a safe, accepting and secure setting. If you would like to know more about how Osteopathy can benefit you, feel free to book an initial intake appointment. Osteopathic treatments can be billed to most extended health care plans.
